- High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI’s) – The most common type of accredited investor is the HNWI. High-net-worth individuals or HNWIs are people with at least $1 million in investable assets. But, if you have $1 million or more in investable assets, then chances are you aren’t a typical wage slave; rather, you are an HNWI and qualify for an accredited investor status.
- Institutional Investors – Next in the line of accredited investors is institutional investors; these are accredited investors that own at least one million dollars worth of securities (not including their primary home). This category also includes pension funds, foundations, and most corporations. But, if you have $1 million or more in investable assets, chances are you’re also an institutional investor.
- Qualified Small Business Issuers – There are few people that qualify as qualified small business issuers but we will cover them in a minute. The main thing to remember is that almost every company on the planet that is publicly held qualifies as an accredited investor since they are required to file Form C (or similar SEC documents) with the SEC in order to qualify for financial statements under S-10.50-B of the federal securities laws.
